Bio
Sebastian Pfeifer (born 1999 in Oldenburg, Germany) developed an early passion for music. He began with classical piano lessons, later expanding his skills to include cello and drums. Over time, his interest shifted towards electronic music, and he quickly developed a desire to produce his own tracks. He started composing his own songs using FL Studio, but soon felt limited by his knowledge and sought new inspiration. This led him to experiment with improvisation on the piano. At 16, he discovered jazz music and began learning rhythm, harmony, and melody on his own. At 17, he took his first lessons with Klaus Ignatzek, who encouraged him to pursue formal music studies.
Sebastian then moved to Munich to study jazz piano under the guidance of Christian Elsässer and Tizian Jost. In 2021, he spent a semester in Mongolia, supported by a scholarship. He also received funding from the DAAD, Musikfonds, and the Pop Production Scholarship from the City of Munich. Alongside his jazz studies, he continued producing electronic music, blending the two genres as his sound evolved. This fusion of styles led to the creation of his musical alias, "Beifer," under which he releases electronic music with jazz influences.
As Beifer, he won 2nd place in the "Do Your Own Thing" competition at Domicil in Dortmund. In 2023, after several singles, he released his debut album constant.transition on the "tunnel.visions" label, which was well received both in the jazz and club scenes. The album features vocalist ENJI and saxophonists Moritz Stahl and Wanja Slavin.
Towards the end of his studies, Pfeifer turned his focus to avant-garde, experimental music. In April 2024, he released ERDEN, an experimental electronic work under his own name, featuring a contribution by Christian Lillinger. The album, which incorporates AI-generated instruments, earned him 3rd place at the Jazz-KI Award, with a performance at ELBJAZZ 2024 as part of the prize. In December 2024 Pfeifer, Moritz Stahl and Sebastian Wolfgruber released their first album as ENDERN: free/transcripts (Boomslang Records). The album explores new dimensions of sound and continues his exploration of experimental, genre-blending music.
